So many times, we go on a short-term mission trip and come back home and move on with our lives. So many times, we lose the passion we felt while in a foreign country. But this time was different. When our hopes of leaving San Jose with a clean-water well were lost, we came home determined to not forget about our new friends. We committed to finding a way to support local leaders, Freddie and Soledad, and all of the children who’s beautiful faces were etched in our memories.
Throughout 2018, over dozens of emails and phone calls, FaceTime and video conference calls, and even a few face-to-face meetings, our group founded Children of Soledad, a 501(c)3 organization, to support the Children and their families. Our team may be spread across the country from California to Wisconsin to Indiana, but our hearts are united in the mission to spread aid and love to God’s children in Honduras.
Donations made to our non-profit, Children of Soledad, are tax-deductible. Our overhead costs are minimal (only maintenance of a secure website and nominal international banking fees) and our board is an all-volunteer crew, nearly every penny given goes directly to the children and families in Honduras.
This year, we are looking forward to providing Christmas “gift baskets”, a hot meal, and some basic clothing and shoes to the children in San Jose and a neighboring mountain village.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 25:40, “Whenever you saw a brother or sister hungry or cold, whatever you did to the least of these, so you did to Me.” (The VOICE) What a powerful image! We are honored to serve the Children of Soledad with you!
