Feet on the Ground (May 16, 2019)

It’s almost time to go back to San Jose!

When we drove away from San Jose in 2017, we promised we would not forget Soledad and the children. (We did not forget. Enter: Children of Soledad). And we promised we would be back….

Emotions are high at the end of a short-term mission trip. Several us knew that while on the “high” of the experience, it’s easy to make promises. But those promises are often quickly forgotten when “real-life” resumes upon returning home. Undeterred, though, we dug in to commit to our promise of Remember and Return.

So here we are, planning our return to San Jose, the children, Freddie and Soledad, and many other friends we have met along the way!

When God calls us to follow Him, to share His love with the world, there is never a guarantee it will be easy. And easy it has not been. We have faced setbacks and trials over the last two years, with paperwork and filings, with technicalities and glitches. But we have pressed on. We believe that when God inspires, He equips and makes a way.

We are excited to be exploring partnerships with local churches, schools, shops, hospitals and other non-profit organizations to ensure the continued support of the children of San Jose and the nearby mountain community. We desire to bring clean water to San Jose, a dream thus far thwarted by shallow bedrock and rough terrain. So we are exploring other options. We continue to support the children with food, clothing and the Gospel message. And we are thrilled to be going back to see it all in person, with our own eyes and hands!

John 15:12-15 12 My commandment to you is this: love others as I have loved you. 13 There is no greater way to love than to give your life for your friends. 14 You celebrate our friendship if you obey this command. 15 I don’t call you servants any longer; servants don’t know what the master is doing, but I have told you everything the Father has said to Me. I call you friends. His command is simple and clear: LOVE.

So we are headed back because our Children of Soledad team loves one another and, together, we are so excited to share our love with the Honduran children and all of those who also love them!

We need your prayers more than anything. Beyond that, any donations will first be used to support the children with food, clothing, and a Gospel lesson. Additional donations will help offset transportation and lodging costs for the Board (no stipend, all are volunteers), though each member has committed to funding his/her own trip without donations. We are SO incredibly grateful for your support and encouragement! We serve an amazing God!!
